The survival tin is by no means a new concept, they have been used mainly by military personnel for many years. This book - Survival Tin for Every Situation - gives you a set of contents for your survival tin designed to help you survive after the incident is over.
The world weather is becoming more extreme with every passing year, floods seem to get deeper and more frequent, storms get more powerful and cause more damage, tsunamis seem more frequent and devastating. The chances of any one of us getting caught out by a freak weather event are getting greater. Add to that the possibilities of train and automobile wrecks, getting lost when out hiking - well the list seems endless.

If you take the trouble to prepare yourself for the worst you will be in a much better position to survive whatever misfortune fate has thrown your way.

By always having your survival tin and its contents with you, together with a few other survival essentials you can be one step ahead.

Read the book, add some of your own ideas, make up your survival tin, carry it always and increase your survival chances considerably.

Survival Tin for Every Situation eBook Joe James

This is not an in-depth read on the many faces of the survival tin. Basically, the guy spends a dollar of your money and a few minutes of your time convincing you why it's a d***ed good idea to carry a survival kit of some sort and then floats a list of contents of a tin that his (seriously hardcore) military buddy carries to this day. If you've already got a tin, or kit with you and you're looking for further insight or knowledge, this is NOT your book. If you're trying to get your best friend to understand the importance of being even slightly prepared... this might be a good place to start.

If you've read this and you're wondering where to go next, my favorite text on survival kits is in Cody Lundin's "98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive."

You get what you pay for so this is not bad value in that it could save a life. The guide is simple and straight forward, something many will like. I suggest that for most of us the guide will be a starting point with each of us modifing a "tin" to our individual needs.
This book is pretty short. I read it on my cell phone while taking the dogs for a walk. It does not go into a lot of detail, but does a decent job of covering why you should have a tin. If you have never looked into a tin before, this is a great place to get a start. However, I would urge you to evaluate your own lifestyle and needs to see if this could be improved or customized to fit what you need. Use this book to get your start.
A nice book that should prove helpful to someone with little to no information on creating survival gear. If you are looking for something hardcore this is not it, so please don't download this book and then complain it is not on the level as the Marine Corps Escape & Evasion school! It is intended for a beginner and in that role, it does the job. It should get the brain juices flowing to advance on to more challenging levels.
First, the "Army Air Corps" ended with World War Two. There is an Army Aviation Branch that was born in 1983--but that is a minor quibble.

The survival tin idea has merit--but using one as a mini mess kit isn't a good idea. A large 'tin' will hold half a cup of liquid. If you want a cooking container and a survival kit, I recommend that you buy a cook pot that will hold at least a pint as your survival kit container--but then you can't stuff it into a pocket. Better--a large piece of heavy aluminum foil that you can shape into a container that will hold about a pint of water and that you can put a lid on.

I carried a survival kit in a BDU cargo pocket (leg) while on active duty in the US Army and had reason to use it once or twice--though it was because I was seperated from my gear in a situation that was less than life-threatening.

The purpose of the tin is to hold everything in one place. A plastic case will work as well, or a small nylon bag. It depends on your kit. Expect to be seperated from your survival tin if you are held captive by hostiles--and remember that the two most important parts of your survival kit are
